How old do you need to be to play airsoft?
Airsoft is a wonderful sport, there’s no denying it. Most of the players say that they started when they were young, with some friends, in the countryside or the woods near home. Nothing strange: after all, this beautiful sport attracts people of all ages and is particularly popular among young people, given its dynamic and adrenaline-pumping nature. But how old do you have to be to start practicing airsoft? Is there a minimum age? And how does it work with minors? In the next few lines, we will exhaust the question step by step.
Is there a minimum age to start practicing airsoft?
In short, the answer is no. However, some clarifications must be made: In the United States, there is no minimum age to start practicing airsoft, since replicas and most of the equipment is free for sale, and therefore can be purchased and used by everyone. That said, it is still recommended to approach this discipline from the age of 12. After all, it is a very complete sport, with many facets, and sometimes very exhausting. Many sports associations accept minors as associates, as long as they have been issued a document of approval by their legal guardians or accompanied by a supervisor, specifically designated.
Where can I get the equipment to start?
Rely on a serious and authorized dealer of airsoft equipment. You will need personal protective equipment, such as goggles, which are mandatory at any stage of play. You will find a wide assortment of replicas, uniforms, and various equipment at competent dealers. Be sure to get complete instruction in the safe practice of airsoft, the proper use of protective gear, and the safe use of the replica. Read the instruction manual carefully and familiarize yourself with the rules and regulations of the association you wish to join. If you follow these simple steps, you will be able to start airsoft quickly and safely.
Participants of all ages are welcome at sporting events?
Unfortunately, not always. Many organizers of airsoft games decide to accept only participants over the age of 16, for reasons related to safety and other aspects related to the nature of the various events. There is no general rule, but it all depends on the organization that runs the event.
Is it safe for a 12-year-old to practice airsoft?
If proper precautions have been taken, absolutely! The important thing is to patiently and diligently follow all the safety rules, handle the replica carefully, and always wear proper certified safety equipment. Make sure to wear goggles, a face mask, gloves, elbow, and knee pads, to stay as safe as possible. It also takes a good dose of common sense. Don’t get carried away and launch into dangerous actions. You must try to have fun, but most importantly, do it safely.
What are the most important rules to keep in mind, for younger players?
1. Treat the replica as if it were always loaded and ready to fire.
2. Keep your finger off the trigger, unless you intend to fire at what the replica is aimed at.
3. Never point the replica at someone, unless you are intent on shooting, and only and exclusively in the field of play.
4. Outside the field, always carry the replica in a closed case, where it will not be visible, without the magazine and battery. The magazine must be stored separately, and must be unloaded.
5. Do not use or carry your weapon in public. Doing so may alarm someone and cause law enforcement to intervene.
Make sure to start practicing airsoft by affiliating to a reliable association, read carefully the rules of the sport and the organization, and stay safe the whole time.
See you on the field!
